Why Motivational Products Result In Increased Productivity

One of the most important roles of senior management in any organization is to motivate the workforce. This is also valid for organizations that make use of volunteers. The more motivate people are, the more productive they become and the more focused they become on achieving the mission of the organization. Motivated people are loyal and they are not likely to betray the organization in any way. Many companies use motivational products as an aid to foster loyalty.

Many organizations try to motivate their workers by means of posters, videos, slogans and email messages by management. They make sure that all employees are aware of the successes achieved by the company and they try their best to create the impression that the company is an excellent, stable and caring employer. Experts agree that these methods can be effective but warn that employees quickly become used to seeing and hearing the same message over and over again.

One of the most popular ways in which businesses try to motivate their staff is to hire keynote speakers. Most of these speakers have achieved tremendous success in one field or another, such as business or sport, or else they have managed to build a meaningful life by overcoming terrible circumstances and personal catastrophes. The messages delivered by such speakers always contain a lesson that advocates hope, belief and perseverance.

There are numerous theories on what exactly it is that motivates people. Some theories opine that money can never be a motivator but many people disagree. Companies have learned that a bonus or a cash gift can be a tremendously attractive carrot. Staff members are often willing to go the extra mile in order to qualify for a promised monetary gift.

The possibility of receiving a coveted gift can also serve as a powerful motivator. Many companies have an array of gifts that vary in price and prestige, using these to reward achievements at different levels. The nature of the gifts varies wildly. Some companies offer memberships to clubs while others offer outings, holidays and even expensive luxuries such as cars and exclusive clothes.

Everybody loves recognition and for some people public recognition is much more valuable than a bonus or a gift. Most companies acknowledge this need for public praise and have systems in place to reward achievements by means of certificates, prizes, trophies and announcements in the press. People receiving recognition in this way are often motivated to try even harder for further and ongoing recognition.

Because every person is unique it is necessary to understand that everybody is motivated by different things. Some people lust after prestige, others crave recognition and yet others want money. Companies would be wise to investigate the motivation triggers of their employees and to design schemes that will satisfy the needs of the workers. A combination of different types of rewards often works best.

Motivational products can be a valuable tool to show that employers care and that they appreciate the efforts of their employees. Great care should be taken, however, to ensure that rewards are given fairly and that known criteria are used to determine the type and size of the reward. If not, other employees may become resentful.
