I've found, time and time again, that the honest measure of a great man or woman is not in what they acquire, how much wealth is under their belt, the hoards of friends they have or the material goods they possess...but it's in their ability to uplift others in the darkest of times. That matters...it really matters.
Our society has us extremely targeted on getting versus giving.
We are living in a world that is targeted on results and grasping at whatever we are able to. This way of living has ground many into the ground as we are constantly looking at the things we desire vs. being deeply grateful for the things we have. We want what we need and we want it now! But if you truly take a little time to take it easy and see what is going on around each of us, it's pretty amazing. There are several dazzling things happening each day. Nonetheless since we are living in the future so frequently we can't see the beauty of the present.
When you can step out of this story - the one of progress, progress, progress - and begin looking at what other people in this world need, you give yourself and others a gift. What is...that gift? It is the gift of true selflessness. It is the gift of giving. You truly begin to see that many people in this world are in dire need of support, love, and help on a basic level and that you really have every ability to fill these wants in one way or another.
So give. Give everything you have. What's interesting about life is when you start giving, it at last gives back to you in the guise of exactly what you need. Give up the account of living constantly in the land of progress for one that is based on helping out other human beings in need.
Time to take a stand for others.
