Your bedroom is your private haven. It is not merely a place where you sleep, it's where you craft your desires, dream your future, and recognise your potentials. It is also where romance is kept alive. But that all depends on how your room is styled. There are rooms that are too cosy that the owner can't think of anything else but snooze when they're in, and there are also rooms that are too cramped that the owner wouldn't wish to spend more time than necessary. The secret to inviting romance in your bedroom is to give its interior design a sensual feel.

Turning your sensible-looking space into a romantic bedroom would need a lot of changes. First, be prepared to change its colour. The most common choice for a sensual interior design is deep red because it invokes passion. Other ideal wall colours are wine, rich brown, burgundy, fuchsia, and other warm colours that can serve as aphrodisiac. You can opt for neutral or fair if you feel red or any of its tones is too much as wall colour then just incorporate red in other objects, such as the colour of the curtains or bed sheets.

Avoid overdoing red, however, because otherwise you'd feel on edge all the time. Too much red can also be sickening. Remember, you are going to sleep in your room so it should have a calming feel as well. Add other colours that go well with your design. Contrast the colours of your wall and floor. Make the walls two shades lighter or darker from your floor.

Creating a sensual bedroom is all about tangible sensation. Please the senses with fluffy surfaces. If your floor is made from timber, marble, or other materials that are cold and hard, soften it with plush rugs. Soft carpets are ideal. Muted lighting is also crucial for a romantic atmosphere. Set up lights with adjustable dimmers for optimum effect. Add abstract paintings and ornate decorations. Also, avoid hanging family portraits if you want to create a sensual bedroom.

Finally, make your bed the focal point of the room. If you like to opt for a dramatic style, use a canopy bed with sheer fabrics as drapes. Use silk for your bed sheets and pillow sheets because it arouses sensuality. Choose soft and plush pillows to complete an inviting bed.
