This was recommended by my CPA. Good price and quick shipping equals a solid deal. I can't remember the last time I had a corrupted database or a program crash, and I still have all that data since 1993 in my system. There is really no way I could maintain a system this large in a spreadsheet or a self-programmed database. I hold off on upgrades at least 2 to 3 years because the changes either are not significant enough or little improvement in its usability. Quicken Home & Business is fantastic!
At first, several accounts that used to update would now fail. Customer service was NO help and said they would "escalate" the problem.
I connected with my bank and have four checking accounts sync'd up with no problem. Yesterday I entered two credit card accounts and have sync'd them with no problem. You would think that after all these years Quicken would expand their portfolio management to include bonds, investment grade commodities (gold, silver), and a host of other options. To do a serious comparative analysis of all of your investments, you should be able to compare results of a broad spectrum easily.
It seems as though they pulled a hunk of code from 1990 and reworked it to shove something out in the market. The software doesn't use basic Windows user interface or commands, which is why it reminds me so much of old DOS software.
Things may have changed, but I gave up on them years ago because the experience was so painful. It was bad enough they just read the help file to me, but their having a poor command of English made it difficult to follow them as well. Still, it is annoying to have to do this. If you want quicken to automatically download and sync to your accounts it works nicely. All that to say that Quicken is like a zippy sports car compared to an old clunker. It's intuitive, easy to use and to our great surprise gives us everything we need to track our various businesses and satisfy our accountant. Support is non-existent. Do not bother calling because you will be routed to India where a non-native English speaker will read off a laundry list script of what to do for general problems which will likely not correlate at all with the issue you may be having.
That is very cool! So if you can get by the initial feeling of terror when you're faced with this change from Money, I think you will eventually be happy with the product. A note on upgrading from previous versions: Make sure you have the current backup file where you can find it. The disc walks you through uninstalling the old version, converting your old data to the new version standard, and ultimately installing the 2011 version.
I have been using Microsoft Money 2007 since, well, the end of 2006/beginning of 2007. The Money software was always reliable if not a little clunky.
Because of the very poor customer support and the step backwards in the user interface, I've downgraded my rating of Quicken 2011 to 3 stars. Hopefully, they will address these issues before the next upgrade.
