What You Have To Know When Choosing A Jazz Guitar Amp

By Angel Dudley

Purchasing a jazz guitar amp is usually what a person needs to do after he or she has bought a guitar. Amplifiers play a crucial role in determining how guitars sound. They normally improve the sound of the guitar as well as amplifying their sound. The amplifier a person buys matters a lot. They come in different qualities, and good quality ones can make normal guitars sound good. The opposite is equally true. That is why musicians do say that guitars are as good as their amplifiers.

Getting an excellent one requires a person to have knowledge of the amplifiers currently in the market. Basically four types do exist in the market. One which gives you the best sounds does not have to be the most costly one. You should go and buy one which matches your equipment best.

The first type is the tube amplifier. These are the pioneers in the market. The usually produce a rich, warm sound. They use a glass tube, and produce the loudest sound amongst all the other amplifiers. However, it is quite costly to maintain them, and also they are huge. Thus, you have to be careful when moving them here and there.

Solid-state amplifier is the second type. This one uses transistors instead of tubes. It makes them an excellent choice for heavy usage, and also makes them quite handy. However, fine tuning is required at higher frequencies failure to which the amplifier will produce harsh, distorted sounds. A number of guitarists prefer solid-state amplifiers, while some have reported a distortion of the sound quality it produces from the original one.

The third amplifier type is the digital amplifier. They are quite trendy, and employ digital technology in sound amplification. The range of sound mimicked by these amplifiers is wide and includes that of tube type. They can also do sound distortion. Cheap ones sometimes produce sound that sounds synthetic. Thus, in order to get your jazz guitar to produce great sounds, you have got to get a sophisticated digital amplifier. The sound they produce is quality and matches the tube amp sound.

The last is the hybrid type. These combine the tube amplifiers and solid-state amplifier technology. The tone is that of tube technology while power is that of solid-state technology. These are cheaper alternatives to tube amplifiers, especially if you wish to get a sound quality similar to the one tube amplifiers produce.

Jazz players have different preferences when it comes to choosing amplifiers for guitars. A great majority use the tube amplifiers because of the acoustic sounding. However, there are also several other well-known guitarists that use the solid-state amplifiers. These also produce great sounds. The choice solely lies with the guitarist.

The sound type, distance to be traveled, amplifier cost and the amount of jazz guitar amp usage determine the type of amplifier someone buys. Of importance to note is that the sound, or music made is also determined by the guitarist. A poor guitarist will always make poor music even if he or she is given best quality tools.
