A Quick Guide To Data Cabinets

By Pete Krowe

In the field of data cabinets, many designs have been developed to help meet the demands of the market. Each application is unique and the most ideal cabinet can only be determined by first considering the requirements. As an example, sound suppression is a necessity in small offices where space is limited.

The safety of communication and other equipment is paramount, more so in applications that involve different parties. Clients in a co-location setup, for example, need to get to their equipment when need arises. Since there are other clients' equipment in the same cabinet, a special arrangement is required to maintain safety. A co-location cabinet is useful in this scenario since it has separate compartments that can be locked individually. A person cannot therefore gain access to any equipment that belongs to someone else.

A cabinet that holds many heavy equipment is most likely a danger for users if measures are not taken to secure it properly. One way of securing it is to fasten it to the floor using strong nuts and bolts. It helps avoid occurrences like the cabinet tipping over and falling on somebody or ruining the equipment. This is most likely to happen during servicing, when engineers pull out equipment for servicing or other reason.

Smaller premises may not require the large, high capacity cabinets that larger premises do. A wall mounted cabinet is ideal for such buildings. It keeps the equipment away from the normal office activities, while clearing space for use by the staff for other tasks. It is not only a more efficient use of office space, but a more productive one too.

Productivity in any office is easily affected if there is excessive noise pollution. Servers and other equipment produce noise when they are working. Noise suppression is a technology used to reinforce some data cabinets to help reduce the noise level produced. Workers can therefore concentrate on their work more easily as a result of the much lower noise levels.

The other type of interference that can cause problems is radio frequency interference. Different equipment have their own emission levels. Where some models produce more than can be tolerated by other equipment, a special enclosure can be utilized. This will help shield the other machines from excessive interference.

Different areas have their own unique needs that require to be considered when deciding which data cabinets are best. Various designs have been developed to help meet these needs. It is therefore necessary to carefully consider the most important requirements before reaching a decision. It is the ideal way of getting the most appropriate fit.
