The Sony NEX-5N has many positive reviews, especially now that the clicking noise during movies has been fixed in the newer versions. As the camera may be a little complex, you can get good results by going into Intelligent Automatic mode or IA mode.

One thing you can do with the camera is to use the touch screen to select just a small area of a complex scene that you have taken a photograph of. This small portion you have blown up will be noise free, and have well-defined colors. Dimly lit indoor scenes are more or less the same, with a bit of noise in the object's shadow against the background. Almost all DSLRs that are available for double the amount don't even do as well. A unique feature of this camera is the ability to capture panorama pictures from left to right. An option to capturing panorama photos in its default mode is to shoot vertically while sweeping left to right or right to left. To change the options you will need to go into the menu system after choosing panorama mode from the virtual wheel. It's in the manual how to change the settings, even if it isn't the easiest to locate.
With little effort, you can take wonderful panoramic shots using this camera. If you don't have the desire to spend your life in Photoshop, this feature alone will make your purchase of the Sony NEX-5N a genuinely great buy. Going into manual mode via the virtual wheel is one of the greatest features of this camera. With this you can actually modify the shutter speed using the mechanical wheel, and by pushing in the lower portion of the wheel will switch to the f/stop. The ISO, which is shown next to the f/stop, could be reached by switching to the Menu mode and selecting Brightness/Color and right there is the ISO setting. The downside is with all the flipping forward and backward, you end up losing the excellent shot. It should be available without the need to go back into the menu system.
You'll see that the NEX-5N comes complete with amazing features but it may take some effort to learn them all. For most people, they will have the settings that work perfect for them and stick with it. For quick access to settings you use, the camera may be programmed to put that into place. You can zoom in electronically, move between photographs in image review mode or choose an object to spotlight.
The digital camera will be simpler to use with modifications to firmware, but the Sony NEX-5N is a fantastic digital camera. The camera can be much more intuitive and easier to use with just a few adjustments here and there.
