Understanding The History Behind An Astrological Consultation

By Dorothy Edwards

When it comes to the stars, most often people study astronomy. Whereas, those offering an Astrological Consultation are often working in the psychic arts. For, while astronomers search the heavens, astrologists search the soul. As such, the two are very different aspects when it comes to studying various aspects of the sky.

The Western form is considered divination based on a specific date and time. In most cases, current date, time and day of birth are used to frame a reading. In this form, a tropical zodiac aligned to the equinoctial points is used to gain insight into the individual. In the process, the reader also focuses on the relative positions of the Sun, Moon and planets to determine the essential aspects of the reading.

By analyzing the movement of these celestial bodies through the zodiac and the placement of the planets in the twelve spatial aspects of the sky, a reader can acquire a great deal of knowledge about the personality of the individual. After which, the most information comes from the individual's date of birth and position of the zodiac sign at the time.

The text known as Vedanga Jytisha was first related to astronomy. Some time later, it was discovered the text also had an astrological connection. As such, it is often considered the first text related to either topic. While this is the case, it should be noted that it is most often considered Greek Hindu rather than just Hindu when being used in readings.

Hindu natal astrology originated with the Hellenistic aspects of astrology. In this form, the reading is based on incorporating Hindu lunar mansions with Greek zodiac signs such as Krios and Kriya among others. As such, the Varaha Mihira's texts are often considered proof of the Greek and Hindu origin of astrology.

Chinese astrology and astronomy share a close link. For, both focus on the male and female, yin and yang as well as the three harmonies of earth, heaven and man. Whereas, other areas of focus in the form included ten celestial stems, time keeping and twelve earthly branches. As such, while not religious in nature, most are spiritual in one aspect or another.

Unlike other forms which are often considered Spiritual in nature, Chinese has often been more political, especially during the early days. In fact, numerous readings have been related to the politics of past and present in the region. Whether the observation of days, decisions, identification of portents or phenomena, all were part of early readings.

Constellations, like those used in Western Asia and Europe were not used in the Chinese form. Instead, there were three enclosures of the sky and twenty eight mansions in twelve zones of Ci. When it comes to the animal signs associated with Chinese astrology which are quite popular around the world, these are related to twelve different aspects or personality traits.

Whatever style astrology is used for a reading, it can often be interesting to note how on target the information provided by the reader can be. For, most consultants and readers have knowledge in relation to all forms though most only use one form for readings. To confirm a reading, a number of individuals now compare online readings to those received during consultation. In most cases, it is almost uncanny how similar these results can be.
