Key Components Of Astral Project

By Richard Taylor

Astral project, also called astral projection or travel, involves the interpretation of out-of-body experiences that suggests that an astral body is different from the physical being and capable of travelling alone, outside of it. This specific term often refers to this particular body leaving its physical body to travel different planes. The premise is derived from religious belief in the afterlife and is also associated with close-to-death experiences.

This type of travel is thought to be spontaneous. Many times it is linked with experiences associated with dreams and sleep, surgical operations, sleep paralysis, illness, meditation and drug experience. Some people may attempt to do it out of curiosity or as part of their spiritual practice.

There are people who describe this kind of experience as travelling to other realms, also called planes. However, the majority of people describe it as a sensation that is like being out of body. The OBE takes place in the normal world and includes individual seeing her or him self from outside or even above. There is not a lot of proof to account for these experiences. In fact, only anecdotal evidence is available. During the middle of the twentieth century surveys conducted and reported that up to 50 percent of people have stated having this experience in during their life.

This theme is found in ethnographic and anthropological literature on shamanism and witchcraft. It is also present in classical philosophy, religious scriptures and numerous myths. Belief in this type of projection varies by location and group.

For western philosophies, the astral body has always served as a middle body of light that connects together the soul and self. Likewise, the plane is an intermediate element of light that exists only between Heaven and Earth and is comprised of spheres of both planets and stars. Such spheres are where spirits, demons and angels exist.

Some people claim that mention of projection can be found in biblical text. There is also belief that is is present in Islamic Mysticism, scriptures of Hindu, Inuit groups, Taoism, the Amazon, ancient Egypt and mythology of the Japanese. Different religious groups and cultures have their own beliefs regarding projection and how it relates to their traditions, folktales, practices and more.

During the 1700s, Emanuel Swedenborg was among the first people to write extensively on the topic of OBE in his Spiritual Diary. The twentieth century saw this topic in more publications, but only some of the authors are widely known, such as Oliver Fox, Robert Monroe, Hereward Carrington, Sylvia Muldoon and Yram. Although there are believers and supporters of this kind of travel, skeptics exist as well. People who do not believe in this make note of the lack of tangible evidence. There are some who say those who experience this are only out of their minds.

Astral project, also called projection or travel, is used to explain out-of-body experiences. It is a theory that is relevant in many cultures and religions around the world. The basic concept is that an astral body is separated from the physical body and able to travel outside of it.
