The summer months have a tendency to be when we escape work for a couple of weeks and enjoy a fun holiday with pals of family. If the weather is at its very finest then we also maximise the sunshine at weekends and for those with children there's the very idea of the best way to keep them amused for 6 weeks off college! If what we opt to delight in involves travelling there by car then we want to make sure that both we and our car is prepared for whatever we choose to do.
- Even though you may service your car regularly, it would be prudent to test certain items such as oil and water level, tyres treads and wiper blades among others to make sure that they are working effectively, especially if you plan on embarking on a long journey. You will not wish to find yourself stopped on the side of the road with the family while you wait for a recovery service all thanks to something which might have taken just a tick to check and been corrected before travelling.
- It's a certainty that you'll enjoy what you had planned far much more than playing 'Yellow Car, Green Car ' with an indignant better half and bored youngsters, whilst sat on a grass verge for hours at a time!
- On that note, you must however be prepared for the unexpected that may leave you still for a while. Plan for your trip a couple of days ahead and ensure those all significant activities for children or such like as well as nibbles, drinks, map books, alert notices etc, are packed.
- If you are headed abroad you want to think about so much more. Along with your passport you will be legally required to carry your drivers license, insurance details, MOT and the necessary warning sign and reflective body wear. You may also want to take a bit of time to investigate possible other laws of driving in relation to the country you are headed.For example; in locations of Spain you aren't permitted to carry your superstore shopping on the rear seat of the car it MUST be in the boot.Failure to adhere to this and any other misdemeanour will result in an on the spot two hundred euro fine and it's no use asserting you don't carry that sort of money on you the Guardia will happily either escort you to the nearest cash point to lighten your deposit account or load up your credit card (I kid you not) or in worse case scenarios incarcerate your car!
- You may want to invest in car breakdown cover or check your existing policy is up to date. Many offer options to add International cover if you want real peace of mind.
