Why Smoking Is So Difficult To Stop

By Eric Bridges

The American Cancer Society rates that not less than 70% of the entire cigarette smokers want to quit smoking. Out of that stream, 40% work out to stop smoking every year. Of that group, 60-80 percent fails, and that is with the help of a smoking cessation program. Tobacco smokers who seek to give up smoking break down in striking level of 95% or beyond. Therefore why is it so difficult to stop smoking?

1. The Power of Nicotine

In order to understand this tremendous challenge, first we need to recognize the real strength of nicotine. Nicotine fuels the award trails within our brains through triggering a measure of dopamine. Dopamine is the hormone that declares to our brain that foods and making love are fascinating. The main cause nicotine is so addictive is because it transforms the mind on a great level. The brain expects nicotine as part of its ongoing operation, and when it doesn't get it, the withdrawal manifests in a very disruptive fashion.

2. The Power of Habit

Even if nicotine can boost the brain, almost all brains can fix that damage within 96 hours. But the parts of this addiction that are every bit severe as the nicotine addiction are the mental and physical habits. We are creatures of routine, and the more frequent and constantly we perform something, the more that action becomes a part of our routine. The simple desire to put the fingers to the lips, for instance, can be so incessant that many people simply give in to that desire.

3. Temptation

The most efficient way to beat the most difficult element of addiction is to eliminate the temptation. This is the main reason why critical drug addicts sign up to a rehabilitation clinic. Unfortunately, not all smokers can afford the service. They still have to continue their lives, and that presents fascination. The smoker who tries to quit can see people smoking and cigarette on the store, and they have an awful reminder when they take part in a routine that used to include cigarette smoking.

4. The Emotional Whirlwind

The big problem from the withdrawal from the nicotine and the habit is that it causes our emotions to fluctuate wildly. Most people aren't prepared for that disorientation. The quitter experiences difficulty concentrating, restlessness and anxiety. They also experience impatience, irritability, hostility and depression, and it is very common to cycle between those states very quickly.

5. Expense

In the first part of this article, we said that people who stop smoking habit with the guide of support systems succeed than those that don't have. The big problem is that the guidance program cost money. There are cigarette cessation groups online, but that is a very passive and remote experience.

Summary

When it comes to quitting cigarettes, it is very easy to adopt a short-term perspective. Once a smoker does that, he or she can rationalize the habit. However, there's no easy solution. There are lots of efficient resources for stopping cigarette smoking, however every person is different. Choosing the right path that will guide you to freedom from smoking habit is a procedure that almost all smokers with determination to stop should undergo.
