London (ANTARA News / Reuters) - Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney grabbed his second award of the extraordinary season on Friday, when he was voted best player version of the Football Writers Association (FWA).
Rooney, who has scored 34 goals for United in all competitions this season, won 80 percent of the votes cast by members of the FWA.
Meanwhile, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba was second in the election, and other Manchester United player Carlos Tevez of Argentina in the third position.
"I am delighted to win this award and so much history and traditions and able to follow the achievement of the great players who have won awards from the FWA since 1948 has given me pride," said Rooney. "I thank my coach at Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson, the coaching staff and colleagues of my team, because they without their help and support, this award would not have existed," he added.
Rooney has also been selected as the best player version of the PFA, last Sunday.
But he's just bad luck can play two games with Manchester in England when the last major league team Chelsea is trying to shift from the top of the league due to injury.
"Wayne is the winner of the prestigious award and that his victory is proof of a great season for club and country," said Steve Bates, chairman of the FWA.
"Achievement has made 34 goals certainly makes an impression and concern for our members, but overall I believe the evidence in the MU has been a balancing game," he said.
"Wayne's enthusiasm makes her a special player and we hope he can bring the club looks to the international stage at the World Cup this season and helped the British to realize his dream.
Rooney will be present with his trophy in London on 13 May.
