Interview by Lon Woodbury
Bill Lane, President and Founder of Bill Lane and Associates Transports spoke with Lon Woodbury from strugglingteens. com on L.A. Talk Radio about how adolescent transport services provide safe, smooth, professional and caring transport to a therapeutic program so that the child, parents and family can feel good about the process.
Bill Lane has been President of the CEDU School in California. He has worked for about 40 years with young people with assorted troubles and their parents in the therapeutic boarding school market. He estimates that he has actually worked with over 10,000 families to provide transport to all kinds of good therapeutic boarding schools.
How Does An Adolescent Transport Service Work?
An adolescent transportation service specializes in de-escalating the transport of a struggling teenager or young adult from his or her home to boarding schools, therapeutic schools, wilderness programs, or residential treatment centers.
Lane and his team know how to connect with adolescents. When they escort a new student to a program, it is not unusual for them to be warmly greeted and hugged by adolescents they had formerly escorted. By the time adolescents arrive at a therapeutic program, much of the anger and fear has dissipated. The time spent in transport, whether it is by plane or car, is used by agents to engage in deep conversations to make a smooth transition from the adolescent's home environment to the new educational and therapeutic facility.
The group also works extremely carefully with the parents at home and the experts at the boarding program, informing them about all phases of the transportation by means of calls or text messaging. Additionally, special care is taken to choose the right representatives to do the transportation, since the rapport that is established between the representatives and the teen can have a lasting positive impact. Lane highlighted to Woodbury that for effective, drama-free transport, every teen has to be treated with self-respect and regard.
All transportation arrangements are made by the teen transport services to reduce the stress on Moms and Dads, keeping in mind cost efficiency. Hardly ever is force needed to make kids go, and at no time is the teen permitted to be alone from the time the agents start the transport. When the journey is completed and the adolescent is securely with the chosen program, the agent will then call the parents and give a full description of the trip.
Besides talking about the transport itself, Lane also discussed with Woodbury how to select good Adolescent Transport Services and the criteria used for selecting the best transport agents
